Review:
Medium sized traditional style Fitzgeralds's
pub that is Tyneside pub of the year for 2009 and 2010.
The original Bacchus pub closed it doors in the
Autumn of 2001 and the new pub is now further up High Bridge.
The pub has a very large U shaped bar that is in a
central position with large wooden pillars spanning
its length. Large windows to one side give a bright
and airy feel during the day.
There is plenty of
seating throughout with a mixture of tables and
chairs and high stools. There is also more
comfortable seating in a raised area to the rear and
a small lounge area near to the main entrance. The
decor is a mixture of wooden panelling and maroon
and cream pastel colours. The pub has a part wooden
and carpeted floor.
The small spotlighting to the
ceiling and large drop down lamp opposite the bar
create a warm and cosy atmosphere in the evening.
Regular music is on play at most times. The pub is
very popular and busy at all times. It attracts a
mixed clientele of business people, shoppers and
people on a night out.
Disabled access is
very good with a designated disabled toilet near to
the stairs. Toilets are immaculately clean and
located up a flight of stairs.
