Best Bar None
is a scheme that aims to create a safer environment in
the pubs, bars and clubs of Newcastle by rewarding safely managed licensed
premises, clamping down on alcohol related crime and curbing irresponsible
drinking habits.
Safe Newcastle leads the scheme in conjunction with Northumbria Police
with support from Metro Radio. It aims to work with the licensed trade to
create a safer city centre for all. Other partners include Bar Entertainment and
Dance Association (BEDA), The Securities Industry Authority (SIA) and
Pubwatch.
Venues entering the scheme are judged against categories including
door, drink and drugs policy, crime prevention and emergency procedures. All
licensed premises within the Newcastle city centre area were invited to apply by
completing an application form. Once forms have been marked, venues
will receive an inspection visit from the Best Bar None team.
Premises that
meet the minimum criteria are then awarded 'accredited status' and are able to
display the Best Bar None logo. This will show customers that they are
socialising in a venue that is committed to their care and safety.
