Review:
Very large and modern
pub that is part of the thriving scene on Osborne
Road.
The glass entrance leads to a very bright and
airy bar with a pine wooden floor and a small bar at
one end. The décor is a mixture of cream colours
with very smart portrait
pictures on the walls and there is spotlighting to
the ceiling. There is plenty of seating with modern
style tables and chairs throughout the bar. This
leads through to a further area at the rear that has
additional seating of sofas and chairs. There is a
large widescreen TV inlaid in the wall as well as
two other TV's on either side of a pillar, in the
centre of the bar. Live sports are shown with all
live football featured.
At the rear of the bar there
is also a further lounge seating area that has
another small bar. This leads through to the
restaurant and the main part of the Caledonian
hotel. Regular music is on play at most times as
next to the main entrance by the bar there is an old
Wurlitzer juke box. The bar attracts a more upmarket
crowd and is bustling with a mixture of young
people, students and hotel guests at the weekend. It
is more relaxed through the week when it is a little
quieter, however the place comes alive at the
weekend.
Outside there is a very large forecourt
split into two areas one of which is in an elevated
position. There is plenty of tables and chairs and
large awnings that cover the area with some heated
lamps. Disabled access can be difficult to the bar
as there are steps leading to the main entrance.
Toilets are medium sized and are smart and clean.
The prices for the hotel start from £45.00 per room
(room only). Standby rates are available at the
reception.
