Large traditional pub that has an
excellent selection of real ales and has a
pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
The bar that is part of the Fitzgeralds chain was
formerly the old music hall, attached to the Tyne
Theatre. It has a a long bar and a wooden floor and
is bright and airy with glass windows to the front. There is
plenty of seating throughout with wooden tables and
chairs and some small cosy booths. Two large domed
glass ceiling areas to the centre and rear of the
pub are a unique and original old feature. The walls
are adorned with old time music memorabilia and the
decor is typical of a traditional Newcastle pub,
with wooden panelling.
A large widescreen TV is
located to the rear with a small TV to front. Live
sports are shown with all live football and six
nations rugby featured. Regular music is on play at
most times with a juke box located in the centre of
the bar near the side entrance. The pub attracts a
regular crowd of real ale drinkers, locals and
people on nights out. A blackboard displaying forthcoming guest ales is
located next to the bar. It is very busy at most times of
the day.
Disabled access very good to main bar.
Toilets at the rear of the pub are medium sized and
in good order.
