Review:
Very large bar
that was formerly known as Bar 55. The bar has been given a full refurbishment and now has a night club that is open until 2am. There is now 3 bars and there is more of a nightclub feel to the place inside with crystal balls over the bar and a black ceiling.
There is a plenty of standing space
throughout however the seating is limited with a mixture of settees, low and high chairs and small booths.
The decor
is a mix of colours however the dark ceiling makes the place somewhat gloomy than before.
It is a pity that there has been the need to cover the Royal Arcade area of the bar which was a noteable feature and
I feel that by doing this some of the character has been removed.
A grand piano is located in one corner. The bar should continue to attract a mixed crowd
of business people, young crowd and people on a
night out however I do not think the new design will appeal to everyone.
The new night club may attract the crowds but I cannot see the place being as busy during the day.
Regular music is on play at most times. A
large stage and DJ booth is housed near to the main
entrance. DJ is a regular feature from 8pm till late on most nights. Widescreen plasma TV's are on show on the walls
and behind the bar. A cash machine is located near
to the main entrance. The bar can be hired for parties of between 10 to 800 persons. A large outside seating area
is open in fine weather.
Disabled access
is excellent with a designated disabled toilet.
Toilets are small and clean.
