Review:
Very large pub on two
levels that is based on a Western themeand
is one of the first to open on the Gateshead side of
the river. The bar has an impressive glass exterior
and can be accessed from the front or side. There is
a very long saloon style wooden bar that is one of
the longest in town. From the right hand side of the
main entrance there is a small bottle bar and a
raised 'dance ranch' stage area where scantily clad
western style saloon girls appear throughout the
evening. The decor is predominantly wooden fixtures
throughout with pictures of western characters and
fitments of a western theme. The smart drop down
lighting also creates a comfortable and welcoming
feel to the bar.
There is plenty of seating with
mainly tables and chairs and more comfortable
seating in booths with ample standing room. The
large windows to the side and front of the bar give
spectacular views of the Tyne Bridge. Two sets of
stairs either side of the main entrance lead to the
upper level.
There is a small bar upstairs with plenty of tables
and chairs and a small raised seating area. There is
also some high stools and shelving opposite to the
bar. The fitments are once again of a western style
with a statuette of a gunslinger and a hanged man
two notable features. There is also a huge fireplace
at one end with a large moose head over the top. The
high ceiling and low drop down lighting give a
spacious and comfortable feel to the place.
Regular
music is on play at most times and there are several
TV's and games machines dotted about the bar.
Cowboy Karaoke is a regular feature on a Tuesday and music
from the 60's and 70's from Dick Enormous on a Wednesday. Bucking
Bronco nights are also held on a Monday - Thursday. A cash link machine is also located near
the side entrance. The bar attracts a young crowd at
the weekend and those on their way to the Baja Beach
club. It is extremely busy but can be a little
quieter throughout the week. Private parties can be
arranged with buffets for 10 to 400 people any night
of the week - phone 0191 4789191.
Disabled access is
very good with a designated disabled toilet located
near to the bottle bar. Toilets are smart and clean
and are on both floors. Cowboy hats are on sale at
the bar for £8.00 each. Check out the pubs own web
