Review:
Large pub that was formerly Bar Oz and has been given a smart upgrade.
The Australian theme has been replaced with a modern decor of purple and beige colours and new carpets throughout.
The new look would appeal to a wider clientele especially with the reasonably priced menu on offer.
There is a long wooden bar that spans the length of the pub.
The bar has plenty of seating
throughout on mainly wooden tables and chairs, with
a large spacious standing area. There are several high tables and chairs in the centre of the bar and by the window. A small non smoking corner area is located
at rear of pub for diners. In one corner at the rear there is a pool table. The pub gets
very busy at all times with mainly a heavy based
student clientele being close to the university, business people and
shoppers. It is also a popular pre- match venue.
Live Musicis a
feature on certain nights with live bands. Regular
music on play at most times with a DJ on a Friday
and Saturday located in a raised area overlooking
the bar. Live sports events are shown on a 2 big
screens at the front of the bar by the windows. There
is also a number of widescreen TV's dotted about the place. Sport
featured includes all live football including
Newcastle and England matches and six nations rugby.
A Change machine is located at the rear of the
pub.
Disabled access is very good to main bar. There is
a designated disabled toilet on the ground floor in
the no smoking area. The toilets downstairs are
small and in reasonable order.
Price:
Reasonable.
