Large traditional old
Newcastle pub that is very similar in appearance to
the former Lord Collingwood that was further down the street.
There are two main entrances that lead through to a
huge semi circular main bar. There is also two TV's
either side of each entrance and a large drop down
screen to the left hand side.
The pub has plenty of
seating throughout with tables and chairs around the
interior of the pub and there is also ample standing
room around the bar. A cosy snug area is located
near one of the main entrances. There are numerous
old pictures and portraits hung around the walls and
a high ceiling which gives the pub a spacious feel.
The pub is usually packed with
locals, market traders and shoppers at lunchtime. It
is also very busy on match days. Live sports shown with live premiership football featured every Saturday from 3pm.
A large CD juke box
is situated near the entrance and regular music is
on play most of the time. A dart board is also
located at the rear of the pub. Free room hire can
be arranged with a buffet for karaoke or disco
entertainment. The pub could do with a little
updating in places however this does not deter the
locals.
Disabled access good with a lift to the
first floor restaurant. The toilets are small and
reasonable.
Price:
Very
Reasonable.
