Review:
Large modern Sports Bar that was voted overall Best Bar None winner for 2006. The pub has two floors with the
main emphasis being on sport and providing reasonably priced meals. With the bar being so
close to the St James Park football ground it has
become a popular attraction especially on match days.
There is an
abundance of seating throughout with tables and
chairs in every area upstairs and down to cater for
the lunchtime diners. The bar is smartly decked out
with wooden panelling and brick walls that are
adorned by sporting pictures.
The pub is bright and airy with
large windows to
the front and wooden blinds. The downstairs level
has a long bar with a part carpeted and wooden
floor. There is pipe-work interlaced in the ceiling
and smart low down drop lighting. The upstairs is
accessed by two large staircases at either end of
the bar. On this level there is a further bar with
shelving and high stools that run along the length
of the window. There is also additional seating and
the decor is mainly the same as downstairs.
Live sports
including live football matches are shown on a
several widescreen TV's that are located on both
levels. Forthcoming matches and sporting events
are advertised in the bar. Regular music is on
play at all times with a free juke box. There are some games machines
dotted about the bar. The pub is very busy at all
times attracting a mixed clientele of locals,
business people, football crowd and shoppers. it is particularly busy on match days
given its sporting theme and position. Fluid parties can be arranged for between 20 to 500
persons in a reserved area or entire room. Contact the bar for further details.
Disabled access is
very good with a designated disabled toilet
located next to the main bar. Toilets can be
accessed downstairs from the main bar and there
are further toilets on the upper level. They are
small and clean and in good order.
