Review:

Very large city bar and classic cocktail lounge that is on two levels. The bar was formerly known as Au Bar and has been extended to create a modern style bar with a Japanese theme. There are 3 bars to choose from and an international bottle bar to the right of the main entrance. The bar oozes class and has an intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

The main bar area downstairs is bright and airy with large glass windows to the front. The décor is a mixture of purple and beige pastel colours with a wooden floor and high ceiling, and spotlighting throughout. There is a small bar to the right of the main entrance. The bar has a spacious feel to the place with plenty of standing room opposite to the bottle bar. There is ample seating throughout with leather armchairs and an array of low tables and chairs. The upstairs bar area can be accessed by stairs at either end of the bar. This level has a more cosy intimate feel with private booths down one side. The booths have cushions and are a place where you can get totally relaxed. There is candle lighting on the tables that add to the relaxed atmosphere. A small bar is located to the right hand side and there is table service if required.

There is regular music on play at most times with the DJ area next to the bottle bar. A DJ night is a feature on certain nights. Live Music is also held every Tuesday (advertised as the Strongbow Rooms - Free entry - all drinks £2 from 8pm) on a small stage also located in this area. A student night is a regular feature on a Monday which has been nominated as the best student night in Newcastle (Official pre-party night for 'the boat'. Live Sports are shown on a large drop down screen with all live football featured. there are also several widescreen TV's dotted about the place. The bar an excellent new addition to the Newcastle scene and will be popular with the business crowd, upmarket clientele and people stopping off on there way to the Quayside. An area of the bar is available for hire for functions. Contact the management for details.

Disabled access to main bar very good with a disabled toilet on the lower level. Toilets are small and clean.
