Review:
Large corner pub that
is mainly frequented by students and locals. There
is always a very lively and pleasant atmosphere in
the evening with a more relaxed comfortable feel
about the place during the day. The pub is split on
three levels which leads back from the main entrance.
To the front there is a small seating area with
wooden tables and chairs that has a wooden floor and
is partly carpeted. This leads to two further areas
at the side and the rear that also has additional
seating of wooden tables and chairs. A cosy open
fire is also to be found at the rear of the bar. The
pub is bright and airy with large glass windows at
the side and to the front. From the side there is
also a good view of the Civic Centre. The bar has recently been given a refurbishment with the
decor is a mix of maroon & cream colours.
Regular music on play at most times and
there is also a DJ at weekends situated in raised
area close to the bar. There is a large outside
seating area with wooden tables,
canopies and heated lamps. The pub is very busy at most times of
the day, and is packed out in the summer with people
sitting outside. Big screen sports are shown on a
number of widescreen TV's to the front and rear of the pub,
with several foreign channels also featured. There
are several games machines on display and a
compendium of games can be obtained for a small
charge, on request at the bar.
Disabled access is difficult as the bar has
three different levels with steps at the rear entrance. Toilets at the rear of the
pub are small and very basic. No children allowed in
beer garden after 8pm.
