A large modern bar
that was formerly known as Bar2XS and more recently
Sanctuary. It been given yet another refurbishment. The bar is also linked
to the Hyena Comedy Cafe bar next door.
The bar
has an intimate feel to it with separate
compartments down one side and subdued lighting with
candles on the tables. The large glass
fronted doors at the entrance lead through to a
very modern and stylish bar.
The decor is a mixture
of cream and red pastel colours and there is small
spotlighting and metallic pipe work on the
ceiling. The main bar area has a stone tiled floor
with a large square bar a central feature.
There is plenty of
seating throughout the bar with a mixture of high
tables and chairs and low cushioned leather
seating. There is also a large amount of standing room.
To the right hand side of the main entrance is a
raised area with low tables and seats with the DJ
booth located at one end. This area could also be
used as a dance floor or for live events. Regular
music and dancing is on play at most times. A DJ is a regular
feature throughout the week with guest DJ's. From inside the bar
there is a flight of stairs that lead from the
main bar up to the Hyena Comedy Cafe. The Hyena
also has its own main entrance located further up
the lane. There are several TV's dotted about the
bar.
The bar attracts a
mixed clientele of business people, younger crowd
and students and those attending the live events
at the Hyena. It should also be popular on match
days once it becomes more established, as it is
very close to the St James Park football ground.
It is quieter throughout the week having only
recently re-opened however with the late licence
the bar is busy on the weekend.
Disabled access is
very good. Toilets are very smart and clean.
