Medium sized
traditional old Newcastle pub that has been voted CAMRA - Tyneside & Northumberland, Real Ale
Pub of the Year for 2006 & 2007.
The pub has an excellent range of cask and guest ales on offer. From the main entrance there is a long bar to the right hand side. There is plenty of seating available
with mainly wooden tables and chairs in the main bar
and a small lounge seating area towards the rear of the
pub. There is also some high tables and chairs.
The decor is a mixture
of maroon and cream colours. There is a huge
fireplace to the centre of the bar with a large
mirror above it. Old pictures of Newcastle adorn
the walls.
There is a cosy
atmosphere at most times due to the subdued
lighting throughout. The pub gets busy at
weekends but is quieter during the week. Several large plasma screens are located throughout the
bar with live premiership football and six nations rugby
shown. Regular music is on play at most times. A juke box is located opposite to the bar.
Several games machines are dotted about.
The pub is very popular with locals and the
football crowd as it is near to St James park.
