Review:
Very large JD Wetherspoon's
pub that is designed to a higher
standard Lloyd's no1 bar.
The bar had a
complete facelift last year and now has a more up market and
modern feel to it. It is set in an excellent
position in a historical area of the Quayside,
overlooking the Tyne. There is an outside seating at
the front which affords a good view of the river,
Tyne bridge and passing trains. The
main bar area has a stone floor and a long narrow
wooden bar.
There is a huge multi coloured
flashing panel behind the bar with smart drop down
lighting over it. The bar area also has some widescreen TV's that feature music and videos. There
is plenty of seating throughout the pub including a
seating area upstairs. The pub has retained its high
ceiling and wooden beams but the most noticeable
change is that it has been opened out making it more
spacious. The pub can be accessed from two glass doors at the rear which lead on to the
courtyard area. The courtyard has additional seating
which is
covered by a huge canopy and there are some
heated lamps and widescreen TV's, a small outside bar is used on occasion. This area is particularly busy when
there is fine weather. The rear of the bar is mostly
carpeted and there is also a family room to one
side. There are stairs at the rear that lead to a
smaller bar upstairs that has a small bar and
further seating.
Regular music is on play at most
times with a DJ a regular feature on a Thursday,
Friday & Saturday. The pub is extremely popular at all times due
to its position, and with the more modern look it is
very busy on the weekend. The bar
attracts a mixed crowd of business people, locals,
tourists, diners and a younger crowd at weekends.
There are excellent baby changing and disabled
facilities available. Toilets are small and clean.

Price:
Very reasonable
for the area. Probably the best value for money on
the Quayside.
Children Friendly:
There is a
separate area of the bar where children are
allowed access. There are also meals for children
available. No under 18's permitted after 6pm.
