Review:

Very large sports bar/lounge that is located at one end of the Newcastle United St James Park stadium. The bar which is named after the Newcastle number nine must be one of the largest in town with 3 levels.

There is an impressive glass frontage that spans the length of the exhibition stand (Gallowgate end). The ground level has a long bar and is decked out in a modern style. There is plenty of seating with table and chairs at the front of the bar as well as ample standing space to accomodate the crowds on match days. A separate non smoking area is located at one end. There are several widescreen TV's showing re-runs of past Newcastle matches and memorabilia from Alan Shearer is also on display.

The middle level is mainly a huge standing area with some small booths at one end. There are 3 huge screens showing sport at all times with all Newcastle matches covered. This area also has another long bar and there are more Shearer pictures on the walls.

The top level has two bars at either end with a mixture of lounge seating and tables & chairs. The decor is prominantly black and white with spotlighting to the ceiling. This level overlooks the bars below and there are some small TV's dotted about.

All of the different levels can be accessed by a staircase at one end and a lift at the other. There is regular music on play at most times with a DJ booth located on the ground level next to the bar.

The bar attracts a mixed clientele and is extremely busy with the football crowd on match days. At other times due to its size it can seem quiet due to its size, even though there is a number of people in the bar. It is also very popular with visitors to Newcastle as well as business people and shoppers. It can get busy in the evening when matches are being shown in the bar. An outside seating area with metallic tables and chairs is used when their is fine weather. Hire the bar for your function or party - up to 1200 guests can be catered for - buffets from £7.95 - £19.95 per person - ask at bar for details. Salsa night every month from 8.30 pm advertised. Entry £3. Shearers T-Shirts on sale £10.00.

Disabled access is very good with a ramp at one end and a lift to all floors. Toilets are smart and clean. The bar is fully air conditioned.
