Review:
Large pub that was formerly
known as The Fog & Firkin. It has
previously been voted Best New Bar for the North
and Yorkshire region. The pub is in a prominent
position overlooking the Quayside with superb views
of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Sage Music Centre. The
terrace extension has given the pub a new dimension
that should make it a popular haunt, especially in
the summer when the terrace area is open.
On
entering the bar you notice the ultra modern design
that is a transformation from the previous bar. The
decor is mainly pastel cream colours with
wooden flooring. There is smart lighting fixtures
throughout with spotlighting to the ceiling. There
is plenty of seating with booths down one side and
low tables and chairs in the area leading to the new
extension. There is an abundance of floor space for
standing and for dancing. To the rear there is a
small comfortable seating area and a smaller terrace area.
The bar is bright and airy with the
extension providing natural light throughout.
Regular music is on play at most times. The bar has
a digital sound system with DJ's from Foundation,
Shindig and Stonelove appearing on certain nights
through the week. The bar is linked closely to Shindig with many events advertised.
Disabled access is very good with
a designated disabled toilet at the rear. Toilets
are smart and clean. Check out the bar's own web
site on
