Large pub that was
formerly the old Jesmond train station. The pub has
retained many of its original features and there is
a train carriage attached at one end that is now
used as an Indian restaurant, Valley Junction 397.
There are two entrances that lead through to an L
shaped mahogany bar. The interior is fully carpeted
and is very nicely decorated throughout with
mahogany and glass panelling. As you enter one of
the doors to the right you are greeted with a
display of an old model train.
There is plenty of
comfortable leather lounge
seating with tables and
chairs opposite the bar, with more intimate alcoved
seating areas throughout the pub. The subdued
lighting creates a comfortable and relaxed
atmosphere with nice lighting fixtures along the top
of the bar. Two notable features are an old lamp
post in the centre and an antique fireplace towards
the rear of the bar. There is also a large tiger
above one of the main entrances. There are a mixed
selection of modern pictures and portraits displayed
on the walls.
The pub is frequented by business
people, students and those looking for an
alternative scene. It is also a popular haunt with
families on a weekend as it is children friendly.
The pub has a large outside seating area with wooden
bench type furniture. There is a Quiz night every
Tuesday from 8.30pm - 11pm (50p per person) with a cash jackpot. Several games machines are dotted about.
A Jazz night is held every week on a Sunday. Cashback on debit purchases over £5.
Private parties can be arranged.
Disabled access to main bar very good. Toilets are
small and clean.
Price:
Moderate.
