Review:

Large modern pub that is an excellent live music venue and has something to suit all tastes. It has been is now owned by The Head of Steam chain of pubs who also have two pubs in the Central Station area. The bar offers one of the best and extensive range of beers in Newcastle. There are huge glass doors at the main entrance that lead through to the main bar. The pub has an L shaped bar with mirrors on the pillars. The bar has a wooden floor with stone walls and pipes interlaced on the ceiling.

There is plenty of seating throughout with mainly tables and chairs to the main bar area. A raised area to the front has additional seating with more tables and chairs. A unique feature of the pub is the large train set in a raised area at the end of the bar. This leads through to a large room where there is further seating area with some tables and chairs. To the rear of the pub there is a separate bar that is used for live music entertainment. This room has a small bar with steps leading down to a large cavern area with a stage at one end.

The pub has very modern style fixtures and fitments. There are also numerous flyers on the arched areas of the walls advertising forthcoming live bands and musical events. Regular music is on play at most times. A large function room which can take up to 250 persons can be hired for a charge. A band or disco and catering can be arranged. Ask at bar or check website for more details of charges. The pub attracts a mixed crowd of locals and students and those people attending the live music functions. It can be busy at most times with a lively and comfortable atmosphere and is very popular when live acts are featured.

Disabled access to the main bar is very good but can be more difficult to the areas at the rear of the pub. Toilets are small and clean.
