Medium sized traditional Newcastle pub that was first established 1836.

The bar first became popular with grocers and tutors in Brandling Village. It also has a naval connection due to its name and shape.

The pub has retained many of its original features with leaded windows to the front.

It has a long bar and a wooden floor and there are old pictures of Newcastle and Lord Collingwood adorning the walls.

The decor is a mixture of pink and cream colours. There is plenty of seating throughout with tables and chairs and a small snug area at one end.

Outside there is further seating with wooden tables and chairs, heated lamps and canopies.

Child policy under 14 not allowed, 14-18 with adults.

Live sports including including live football and Six Nation rugby matches are shown on 3 large drop down screens and several widescreen TV's. A cash link machine is located near to the main entrance.

Quiz night every Monday from 9pm with a cash prize on offer. The pub attracts a steady clientele of students and locals and is close enough to the Jesmond strip of bars to attract those on a night out in Jesmond.

Disabled access is good. Toilets are small and clean.

Price: Moderate.
