Review:

Large T&J Bernard pub that has been a listed building since 1987. Legend has it that The County dates back to 1826 when it was originally a dwelling house. At that time it belonged to the notorious Bulman family who lived in the area (part of Gosforth being known as Bulman Village). In 1866 the property was converted to a pub and was named The County Hotel.

The pub is now a real ale enthuiasts dream with one of the widest selection of real ales on offer. The absence of TVs or music playing is a noteable feature and does not detract from it's popularity attracting locals, business crowd and students. It has a steady crowd of regulars and is busy at most times.

The pub has a large rectangular bar that can be accessed from two main entrances on either side. There is a small room to the back which can be used for functions of between 15 - 20 persons - ask at bar for further details. The pub has plenty of seating throughout. The decor is of a traditional pub style with old pictures of byegone days on the walls. Children friendly. Car Parking is available with a small car park to one side. There is a no smoking area for diners. A cash Machine is located opposite to the bar.

Disabled access to the main bar is very good with a designated disabled toilet. Toilets are small and clean.

Price: Reasonable.
