Small traditional corner pub
formerly known as the Tut 'n' Shive. The pub has a
small bar that is split on two levels with a wooden floor. The lower level has limited seating and
there is a large drop down screen in one corner
opposite the bar. All live football and six nations
rugby is featured and big screen movies are shown
every
Wednesday. To the rear there is a raised area
that has some seating by the window and there is
also a pool table.
The
pub is bright and airy by day with glass windows to
the front and side and in the evening there is more
subdued lighting giving a relaxed atmosphere. There
is also a good view of the Centre of Life through
the side windows. The decoration is basic and there
are several posters and leaflets advertising
promotions or forthcoming events on the walls.
There
is regular music on play with one main juke box at
the top of the
bar and
Live
Music
features on 5 nights a week in the room upstairs
from 8pm.
There are 2 bandits and a quiz machine. Frequented mainly by locals, and students, and is
also popular with real ale drinkers and a good venue
for live music. There is a board outside the pub
advertising forthcoming bands on play. Is busy on
most nights due to the Live bands appearing upstairs
and the selection of cask ales. On a Sunday night
from 8pm there is a pool knock out competition with
beer prizes and £1.00 entry. Function room available
for private parties.
Disabled access good to
main bar but difficult to function room which is up
a flight of stairs. Toilets are small and basic.
Price:
Moderate.
