Very large pub that is
part of the John Barras chain. The bar is split over
two levels. As you enter there is a fireplace near
the main entrance and some tables and chairs to the
front with a pool table and games machines. This leads
through to the main bar area which is fully carpeted
and has some high tables and chairs and comfortable
lounge seating dotted about. The bar is bright and
airy and is predominantly decked out with pine
furnishings, smart chandelier type lighting and has
old Barras
brewery pictures adorning the walls. There is a
small juke box on the wall near to the bar.
To the
right of the main entrance there is a small raised
area with lounge seating, tables and chairs and a
small fireplace. To the left of the bar is another
small raised area with similar seating. Children are
allowed in this area between 11am- 7pm which is also
a designated non- smoking area. A wooden staircase
leads up to a huge upper level which overlooks the
main bar downstairs. Once again there is plenty of
seating with tables and chairs. There is also lounge
seating by the windows to the front as well as some
cosy snug areas dotted about. At one end there is a
small bar and juke box is also located near to the
toilets.
Regular music is on play at most times.
Live sporting events are shown on large drop down
screens located both upstairs and downstairs and widescreen TV's, with
all live football and six nations rugby shown. The
bar attracts a steady student crowd and is also
frequented by locals and business people. All in all
the bar has a very pleasant atmosphere and is a good
place to relax and enjoy a drink. A quiz night is
held every Sunday (music) & Thursday (general knowledge) from 8.30pm. Cash back facility
is available and a cashlink machine is located opposite
to the bar.
Outside there is a seating area with
tables and chairs that is used in fine weather.
Disabled access is excellent with a ramp outside
leading to the main bar area. There is also a
designated disabled toilet at the rear.
Toilets located on both levels are small and clean.
