Medium sized Sir John
Fitzgerald's pub that is furnished to a high standard
and is well worth a visit. The bar can be accessed
from two main entrances to the front and side of the
pub. There is a long wooden bar with barrels inlaid
in each corner. To the front there are two small
wooden booths with comfortable leather backed
seating and nice inlaid pictures on the panelling.
There are also some tables and chairs opposite the
main bar with limited space between the bar and the
side of the pub. This leads through to a further
extensive seating area at the side and rear with
plenty of tables and chairs.
There is predominantly
dark red and green decor throughout with wooden
panelling and the pub is
fully carpeted. It is bright and airy by day as
there are windows to the front and side. By night
there is a more cosy atmosphere with smart low
drop down lighting over the bar area. There are
numerous pictures and oddments displayed on the
walls, including books and some musical
instruments. The bar has 2 TV's at the rear and
there is regular music on play at most times. An Acoustic night is a regular feature on a Monday.
A quiz night is held
every Thursday at 9pm with several prizes on
offer (8 pints to winner and a rollover jackpot).
There is a dartboard located at
the rear and several games machines dotted about
the bar. The pub can be busy at most times,
especially in the evening and at the weekend with
a steady clientele of locals and students. Link cash machine is available.
Party discounts for 10 or more persons. Takeaway service on food available.
Disabled access to main bar is very good from the
entrance at the side of the pub. Toilets at the
rear are very smart and clean.
