Popular old Newcastle pub which dates back to 1771 when the place was a former Blacksmith. The bar which was formerly known as Blackie Boy and historically Black Boy has now sadly been turned into a Western inspired Texas saloon bar.

The ground floor which is the Toon Saloon has a long narrow bar with a access to the outside Campfire Terrace area to side of the saloon.

The bar has some seating at the front with more standing space opposite to the bar.

There is several tables with high seating along the walls that lead onto the Campfire Terrace area.

The bar has a stylish look with Western style fixtures and ceiling fans. The old clock from 1923 behind the bar still remains.

There is a cosy feel to the bar in the evening with a very dark subdued atmosphere and cylindrical lighting down one side.

The Karaoke Ranch is on the top floor upstairs with 2 function rooms, The Dolly Parton Room and The Johnny Cash Room that is available to be booked for parties. Ask at the bar for more information or call 0191 2320730 or 0191 22111880.

Frequented by locals and a younger crowd at weekend. Busy at most times, especially on the weekend with a cosy atmosphere.

Disabled access good but difficult to upstairs function room. Toilets small and clean.

Price: Moderate.
