Review:
A very large bar cafe
that was formerly the Metropolitan restaurant.
The
bar has recently been given a further makeover that includes a new terrace area and open plan kitchen.
The new look is very stylish throughout with an
impressive frontage of large glass doors that lead
through to the main bar area. The bar is split on
two levels and is very bright and airy with large
windows to the front. The lower level has a long
bar and wooden floor with chandeliers and large drop down shades by the windows.
The decor is a nice mixture of
pastel colours and the bar has a spacious feel with
an expanse of mirrors on one side.
There is plenty
of seating throughout with a raised area to the
right of the bar containing tables and chairs, that
is mainly used by diners. To the left there is a
more comfortable seating area with leather armchairs
and wooden tables. There
is also plenty of standing room
throughout.
The bar has a very high ceiling and there are two
tall pillars in the centre.
The upper mezanine level which
overlooks the lower level is accessed by stairs on
the left hand side of the bar. This area has a
small bar at one end. There is further seating in this area that is also used to host functions and parties.
There is regular music
on play at most times with a DJ on certain nights. The bar attracts a mixed
crowd of business people and more upmarket
clientele. It will also attract those stopping off
on there way to the Quayside. There is a nice
comfortable atmosphere with subdued lighting in the
evening. It is busy at most times of the day and the new look and intersting menu will continue to attract
a steady crowd. The bar is fully air conditioned
throughout. There is a small outside terrace area
which has waiter service and has metallic tables and
chairs. This area has also some heated lamps that
are used at certain times.
Disabled access is very good to the main
bar with a designated disabled toilet on the lower
level. It is more difficult to the upstairs bar.
There is toilets on the lower level as well as
downstairs. The toilets are very smart and clean.
